Capital Cafe 華星冰室
Address:G/F, Shun King Bldg, 185-187 Shau Kei Wan Main St E (at Factory St),Hong Kong

It's not those fancy eateries with gimmicky dishes that you'll take a pic of and show off to friends, but often what we really need is to get back to basics. 👍

Capital Cafe (華星冰室)has been run by ex-workers from a local record label ,Capital Artist(華星唱片) for few years (that's why it is named as Capital). The traditional ceramic floor tiles , ceiling fans, the tables and chairs mimic a classic "cha chan tang", bringing us back to 1970s' Hong Kong.

If you are craving local comfort food, try on this combo: spaghetti soup with barbecued pork, buttered toast and a very good plate of scramble egg- fluffy and moist. Simplicity rules!

The 1st Social Enterprise Vegetarian Restaurant in town 港首間社企素食餐廳

樂農 Happy VeggiesAddress: 1/F Bayfield Building , 99 Hennessey Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong

Let's go GREEN this Monday with a heart of appreciation-What's better than getting your stomach filled with healthy greens while helping others and society as a whole.
Embracing a mission to promote social integration, Happy Veggies employs hearing impaired👂 while introducing an alternative to eating meat. Fascinated by this idea and appreciate how the staff serve the customers. Professional; work quietly with busy hand gestures as the major communication tool and always keep a smile on their faces.

Concept aside, the food brings me back the taste of home with less salt, sugar and oil; no MSG or processed vegetables and it supports local farm produce and fair trade ingredients! You can pick 3 out of 6 dishes available for the day which comes with 1 soup and free-flow rice. (cost less than $50!)
Food ordering process is kinda smooth and efficient with the aid of a simple order sheet 📝 and it's run in cafeteria style. Even if you are not big fan of vegetarian, it’s always a refreshing choice for lunch in a city soaked in fast food culture.

A perfect tea-time treat

Lauduree Tea Room

Address: Shop no. Kiosk 3/F, Times Square, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong

I had a very bad experience with Macaron that it was too sweet and got my teeth numb, but Lauduree's delights tell another story. Highly recommend rose petal macaron-delicate and light flowery flavour. Crunchy meringue double decker filled with buttery ganache. But personally pistachio one is full of disappointment; I just can't taste much of the nutty flavour.

Another highlight is definitely the Salted caramel. The filling is heavier than rose petal but still it's not that kind of filling that would stick onto your teeth for ages. When the two long lost brothers - salted butter and caramel reunited, magic moment comes.

Surprise at Coffee shop chains

Pacific Coffee EmporiumAddress: Shop 6, Ground Floor, 9 Kingston Street, Fashion Walk, Causeway Bay

Sometimes there's full of surprise even at coffee shop chains. This flagship PCC offers a list of 20 eastern/western adventure *alcohol infused coffee* e.g. kueihuachen Cointreau Mocha, Irish coffee , Erguatou pink grapefruit chillino (around$50/cup)

I picked the Western adventure - Baileys latte today. The hot creamy latte with well executed foam is heavenly with baileys. The alcohol is quite timid but well who wanna get drunk in the middle of the day? The dimly light setting keeps the warm ambience. I usually grab a seat at the airy corridor which runs along the entire side of the cafe - and the french windows fill it with abundant natural light. It's a great place to read quietly or simply take the laptop and focus on your own work.

Macanese delights

Chopstick Kee
Address: Shop A1, Khuan Ying Commercial Building, 85-89 Wellington Street, Central

Pork bun & cart noodles mixed with Sha Cha Sauce (toppings: fish roll, tofu skin & squid) with traditional watercress drink.
Instead of store-bought mayo, Chopstick Kee made its pork bun with cheese and honey mustard, adding a surprisingly matched flavour to the palate! And I highly recommend cart noodles combined with Sha Cha sauce- it has a pretty strong kick.

Tourist might find it difficult to read the Chinese menu but don't worry u'll recognise the signature dish when u see every patron cuddling around the same bowl of noodles or bun in this constantly packed restaurant
And guess what? Tea set for pork bun: $22 only; noodles with 3 toppings: $26

Great start of the day- Oldish

Restaurant:Oldish
Address: G/F, 53 Tung Street ,Sheung Wan, Hong Kong
(It takes around 8 mins ffrom Sheung Wan MTR station)

What's better than starting the Valentine's day with a lovely all day breakfast and a cup of hot cocoa? Give a pass to the biscuit like bread and a very humble 6cm long bacon; luckily I got a bonus of earthy mushroom and fluffy baked potato!

If you want something refreshing and exotic instead, try on this combo:Pork jowl cake with sriracha Mayo, served with ice tea ( with lime!). Crispy cake on the outside and the layers of tendered pork jowl, red pepper and unions inside for a hint of exotic. The red pepper is a surprise to me; it just turns up the heat and colour to the dish to the next level!

The best thing about this restaurant - the theme and style of every single item, from tables and chairs to the plates to be served, you can tell from its name: Oldish. I love it. Definitely one of my favourite places to chill my lungs out with friends!
